Hello fellow students and who dares to read these blog posts. I will admit the title for my blog post is quite an exaggeration but is how I currently feel with what I have completed for this project. To say at the very least, I’m not finished and I will be grinding for the next few days to get this short film out. My social life, free time, and any other hobbies I have will not exist for a while.

I’ve created a sort of rough example of how the sequence of animations will play together. (I got advice to do this because having the clips of animations by themselves can be confusing.) I noticed though when I did export the animations for some odd reason the frame rate change. (I’ll have to look into this, but it should be an easy fix.)

The songs in the background are there for filler and won’t be the final soundtrack. (However, if time runs out and I don’t have time to work on audio, these will most likely be the song I will use.) I don’t own these music pieces and all rights are reserved to the creators Hanz Zimmer, Richard Harvey and Camille. (The music choice is from The Little Prince soundtrack.)

These are some of the backgrounds I finished for the next scenes in the animation. I wanted to focus more on getting these done because they are complex in a way when compared to the first scenes. (Perspective, textures, color choice, etc..) If anything my backgrounds need to be appealing. If my animation doesn’t turn out as clean and smooth as I want it to be the background and other factors will help bring the film together.

Here are some of the animation clips by themselves if anyone wanted to look at them individually. In my opinion, I should have more (I should be done!) and yes, I did have some setbacks but most of the time I’ve lost has been due to procrastination. I should have finished my rough animations by now and be in the lining and coloring process.

I’m proud of how my backgrounds turned out and how some of my animation roughs played out. If anything to get better at these things I need practice, which can consist of watching tutorials and receiving critiques and advice from others. There is always room for improvement, so I will be constantly practicing with my art skills to improve them.

How I plan for this to be viewed? I’m aware that other students in my class have created short films as well (Scout Baldwin and Jess Mcdougal.) and I wish to do a screening of all the films. If we can project the films on a large projector or screen, showcasing all the films that would be amazing. The large screen would be similar to how Carol Van Schenck (An art student) presented her film at the MOCA museum. However, this time there will be multiple films to showcase with all the artist statements under the screen.

Daily Dose of Artist Inspirations

Leensor

I found out about leensor from their Deviantart krooku and let me just say their work is amazing! They use so many different textures in their illustrations and artwork, creating complex sceneries that are very appealing to the viewer. They also have created animations before with the same style and let me just say it’s crazy amazing! I’ve been inspired by them for 3 years or more now and been using their free brush set regularly! I highly suggest you check out their work if you are interested in their art or checking out their brush set. (The textures are amazing!!)

April "Pinkie" Davis (Pinkietoons)

April Davis or better known as Pinkietoons used to live in Virginia Beach! Pinkie now lives in LA and works as Storyboard Revisionist and Character Designer for Sponge Bob!! She’s an amazing person and her artwork is gorgeous! She’s a huge inspiration to me because it just shows how you can come from a small city and make it big and live your dreams. Pinkie started as a freelance artist working part-time jobs, etc. (She even worked at the Lynnhaven Hot topic!) Over the years (5-years) Pinkie applied to Nickelodeons Animation Nicktern (Intern) program and finally got accepted. Pinkie was offered a freelance from Nickelodeon and has been working for Nick for a year now. It just shows if you put in enough effort into doing what you love, you can do what you love! I was inspired to put more textures into my background because of her textured backgrounds. Pinkie offered some very helpful advice that they use paint textures from images mixed with textured Photoshop brushes and effects! I love this idea, and I will be experimenting with it with other textures on this prject and in the future. Thank you Pinkietoon for being a daily inspiration to me and many other aspiring artists, you are amazing!

Emma Cormarie (Eimpo)

I have recently discovered Emma Cormarie’s art through Instagram and I am very glad I did! She is an illustrator and a character designer from what I’ve seen through her artworks. Emma has such a fun-loving yet simple style. In my opinion, simple styles go a long way and can tell stories very well! I especially love how she has alot of movement with her characters and the body language they display. The strands of hair are just the littlest of details but show so much personality in the character! They tend to represent outgoing personalities and can allude to other character traits. (Such as being messy.) I love her artwork and illustrations and if you do as well you should check out her Instagram and website!

My priorities

Get things done, create a plan, set deadlines, and meet those deadlines!! I’m going to spend most of my time for the next days to get myself together, animating, lining, coloring, and creating backgrounds. When these visuals are finished I would like to bring them into primer pro and after-effects to edit them and add finishing touches. If I have any free time I want to compose a mash of music together and create an ending credit song. My deadline is February 10, 2020, my birthday.

Wish me luck!

How do you think I can improve?
